ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Consults with the General Manager to ensure compliance with Tribal, federal and (if applicable) state employment related laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • Has authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, transfer, provide training opportunities, recommend merit increases, evaluate performance, create and adjust performance standards, create and/or delegate staff scheduling, invoke disciplinary action and provide for the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Develops sources of qualified applicants, notifies tribal members of job openings, conducts screening interviews, administers tests, evaluates applicant basic qualifications, and posts jobs.
  • Manages and coordinates departmental strategic plans with the general manager and holds members of the HR Team accountable to achievement of outlined goals.
  • Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other departments in the organization.
  • Manages drug and alcohol testing programs.
  • Keeps accurate and timely records and prepares statistical reports concerning recruitment, interviews, hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations.
  • Assures maintenance of accurate training program materials inventories for appropriate job skill areas.
  • Manages and directs the Benefits Coordinator regarding the day to day employee benefit programs, workers compensation, and wellness initiatives.
  • Encourages mutual respect, dignity and integrity with all employees, by setting positive examples at all times.
  • Instills an atmosphere that encourages employees to share ideas, discuss concerns and resolve conflicts.
  • Conducts and manages employee investigations and provide management with recommendations to the course of corrective actions in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Implements policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and guest centered operation.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or four to six years Human Resources related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good communication skills, and the ability to perform in a high volume, fast paced and goal oriented environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record. No felony, theft or stealing convictions.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen, background investigation, obtain and maintain gaming license.
  • Tribal preference.

TRIBAL PREFERENCE POLICY:

Members of the Jena Band of Choctaw Tribe shall be given absolute preference with respect to hiring, promotions, training, contracting, and separation from employment. For persons who meet the minimum qualifications, preferential treatment shall be based on the following criteria and shall be given in the following order:

  • Enrolled members of the Jena Band of Choctaw tribe who satisfy the minimum job qualifications
  • Spouses of enrolled members of the Jena Band of Choctaw who satisfy the minimum job qualifications
  • Enrolled members of other recognized tribes who satisfy the minimum job qualifications
  • Military Veterans
  • All others who satisfy the minimum job qualifications
